This font is a MODIFIED subset of a revival of the original Macintosh system face, drawn by Susan Kare and revived by Duane King (http://kingduane.com). THE LICENCE STATEMENT HERE USED TO BE WRONG. It said "MIT License, Copyright (c) 2024 Duane King". The font's own name table says something different and the font is the authority on itself: nameID 0 (copyright) : Susan Kare nameID 9 (designer) : Duane King nameID 13 (licence) : SIL Open Font License (OFL) So it ships under the OFL, not MIT, and the copyright is Susan Kare's. The full OFL 1.1 text follows. No Reserved Font Name is declared in the original's copyright line, so renaming is permitted rather than required - but it has been renamed anyway, for the reason below. WHAT WAS CHANGED, AND WHY. 1. THE APPLE LOGO GLYPH IS REMOVED. The original carried a drawn apple at U+F8FF, which is where the Macintosh system kept it. Apple's mark is live, and a machine that is explicitly not Apple's should not ship it. The codepoint, its glyph and its outline are gone: 214 glyphs became 212, and nothing maps into the private use area at all. 2. THE FAMILY IS RENAMED TO SystemBitmap. It was "Chicago Kare" inside the file. Chicago is Apple's name for the typeface, and the project's earlier rename only ever reached the stylesheet - the trademark was still shipping in the binary. It is not any more. Both changes are verifiable from the file itself rather than from this note: load it and check that U+F8FF is absent from the cmap and that no name record contains the word Chicago. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright (c) Susan Kare.
